Sprawling atop the extinct Pukekawa crater, the Auckland Domain is Auckland’s oldest and one of its largest parks.  Close to the CBD, Parnell and Newmarket, and with extensive views across the city and the Waitemata Harbour, the Domain includes tree-studded parkland, rugby and cricket grounds, bush trails, formal gardens, Winter Gardens, and, the jewel in its crown, the Auckland War Memorial Museum.  Completed in 1929 in neo-classical style, the Museum punctuates the Auckland skyline, and is one of its iconic landmarks.  The Domain’s fine collection of bronze and marble statuary was expanded during 2004-2006 to include the works of eight New Zealand contemporary artists, which are detailed on the trail map available at the Museum.
