The Hokianga Harbour, steeped in Maori and European history, is the startlingly beautiful setting of this eclectic hotel. Sprawling along the southern shores of the Harbour, Copthorne Hotel and Resort Hokianga’s unrivalled location has undoubtedly been the scene of many intriguing episodes. On this site, as early as the mid 1870’s, seamen would gather at ‘The Heads’ Hotel awaiting fine weather to get their ships over the bar which guards the Harbour’s entrance.
Today, the kauri villa built for the Bryers family, the original owners of ‘The Heads’, remains the heart of the complex. Within its walls, you’ll find the area’s history acclaimed, with depictions of local Maori tupuna (ancestors) including Kupe displayed with pride in the hotel foyer
Hotel Reception and restaurant. The Hotel, set on 2 hectares, is now an idyllic wedding and conference venue, offering a range of facilities and accommodation options.
Facilities:
The Bryers Room Restaurant
Restaurant in The Copthorne Hotel Hokianga offers a fine selection of dishes, including locally farmed crayfish, as well as decadent home-made desserts and a wide range of Northland wines. The restaurant’s kitchen is also the backbone of the hotel’s wedding and conference venue activities, its reception menus catering for every taste and featuring local produce. The hotel boasts it’s own marquee, which enhances wedding celebrations overlooking the harbour.
The house bar, complete with pool table and large screen TV, is where guests and locals gather to discuss the day’s events. Outdoor tables sited on wrap-around decks
Hotel decks link the interior with the hotel’s unique waterfront setting. Just a few steps further is the solar heated pool,
Pool at Copthorne Hotel Hokianga a must-visit for the energetic and those with children.
Accommodation:
The Superior Beachfront king
units,
superior beachfront king units in the recently built two-storey block adjacent to the main building, are the Hotel’s premium rooms. Spacious and beautifully appointed, these rooms take full advantage of the hotel’s location, and are the perfect setting for a romantic weekend. Each has its own balcony overlooking the beach – an idyllic spot to indulge in a sunset drink. The units have tea & coffee making facilities, and a mini bar, but no kitchen facilities.
The Garden View units
Garden view unit, while pleasantly situated and quiet, are suited to the budget-conscious. These units have a small kitchenette with a stovetop, refrigerator, tea & coffee making facilities, and satellite television, with king bed or queen + single bed options.
The 2 bedroom Beachfront units are the most suitable for families, with full kitchen facilities. Direct access onto the lawns which sweep down to the beach, plus sunset views to the sand dunes on the other side of the bay, make these units both appealing and convenient.
With plans to build a second two storey block mirroring the existing “superior beachfront” building, plus the upgrade of the house bar and other amenities, the current owners, the Lloydd family, have their eyes set firmly on the future. Judging by their most recent results, that future looks very promising
