Karikari Peninsula

Is situated northwest of Mangonui (The Far North), near the south-eastern corner of the Aupouri Peninsula.  From the twin crescent-shaped coves of Matai Bay to the 18km stretch of Tokerau Bay, there’s a beach to suit every activity.  Not only has it got a bevy of beautiful beaches, it’s a fisherman’s and diver’s paradise.  Whatuwhiwhi, the peninsula’s main settlement, hosts the annual Kitefishing Klassic, providing the perfect chance to view exponents of this land based fishing technology at work.  Whatuwhiwhi is also the home of the local dive centre, while nearby Carrington Estate will lure with its world-class golf course and the Karikari Estate Vineyard and Winery (11am - 4pm)
