This historic village has numerous eateries, but is most famous for the Mangonui Fish Shop which overhangs the water on the shorefront. Diners choose their fish fresh from the chilled cabinet, then sit back and enjoy the surroundings and maybe a glass of wine while it’s cooked. The road hugs the shoreline and winds past the general store, craft galleries and restaurants which overlook the peaceful harbour. The wharf is always teeming with local fishermen, and the village’s Heritage Trail map, available from the Information Centre, details the history of its many the fine old buildings.
