New Zealand offers a stunningly varied landscape, from the long white sand beaches of the sub-tropical north to the dramatic plunge from snow-capped mountains to the kelp-laced shores of the Kaikoura coast. We are addicted to the beauty and charm of New Zealand, and still view each tour we take of the country with a tingle of anticipation. Map of New Zealand
Roughly the same size as Italy, New Zealand boasts a coastline measuring roughly 15,134 km (9400 mi) – almost as long as that of the continental United States. Needless to say, water sports feature highly on the list of kiwi summer pastimes. However, New Zealand’s Southern Alps (Queenstown, Wanaka) in the south, and the sub-alpine Central Plateau in the north offer many winter options for visitors as well. From bungy jumping to whale watching, tramping to beachcombing, golfing to bird-watching, there’s a myriad of choice in this adventurer’s paradise.
By contrast, urban New Zealand offers much as well. A strong multi-cultural population base, particularly in the larger centres, fosters diversity in the range of food and drinks available, and though New Zealand is far from many parts of the world, you can usually find a tiny piece of home when those taste buds are yearning. With a vibrant arts scene, numerous concert venues, plus cultural centres and festivals, entertainment suiting all tastes is easy to find.
Be warned, though. Even now, when we tour the country, we always wish there was more time for us to enjoy all the things that are on offer. We encourage you to spend as long as you can on your travels here, to slow down and enjoy the laid-back kiwi lifestyle.
Whether you want a romantic, adventure, sightseeing, or relaxing recreational holiday, New Zealand is an ideal travel destination, a place worth lingering in, and maybe falling in love with.
